What is a furnace?

What is a furnace?

Central heating as we know it today got its start in the Roman Empire. Modern central heating systems are efficient enough that they typically won’t require additional energy-wasting localized or space heaters. A central heating system uses some form of energy combustion or release, be it from a furnace or furnace and boiler combination.

A gas furnace is a home heating appliance that runs off of natural gas. The natural gas is ignited in the furnace, warming up the air, which is then delivered throughout the home. Electric furnaces, gas furnaces and convection heaters all have their strengths and weaknesses.

What is a damper in HVAC?

What is a damper in HVAC?

An HVAC damper is a movable plate, located in the ductwork, that regulates airflow and redirects it to specific areas of the home. Dampers are typically used in zoning or “zone control” systems or to distribute air flow to specific regions. Most homeowners probably do not know about dampers and its role in helping regulate the temperature in your property.

Adjusting the balancing damper is like turning a lever to open or close it. You do not want to change the wrong part of the HVAC system. Make sure to label where it all leads – e.g. Bathroom, Master Bedroom, etc. If you want to heat your home, you do the opposite.

What is static pressure HVAC?

What is static pressure HVAC?

Static pressure refers to the amount of pressure measured in inches of water when air moves through an object. A blood pressure reading gives the doctor a good indication of your overall health. If the static pressure in the HVAC system is too high then the system is not going to operate as well as it should.

Static pressure is just the resistance to air flow through any heating and cooling system. Too much pressure and air flow is restricted, or even stopped. This is not good for the HVAC system and needs to be addressed.

What does an HVAC compressor do?

What does an HVAC compressor do?

Without a working compressor, you won’t have cool air… period. Compressors can develop leaks at their connectors, causing a loss of refrigerant. Grime and dust contamination will also affect it, leading to it becoming stuck. A malfunction in the compressor’s motor will also stop cooling.

What temperature should come out of ac vents?

What temperature should come out of ac vents?

There is a range of acceptable temperatures. 55 to 61 degrees would be an acceptable range for a properly working ac cooling process. Old ducts, with poor sealing and insulation, or ducts that are in an attic with poor insulation can affect the temperature drop.

Most homes can generally maintain temperatures between 70-75 degrees in the heat of the summer.

Programmable or “Smart” thermostats will do a much better job of striking the perfect balance between personal comfort and energy savings. It’s important to keep in mind that the temperature you set on the thermostat will not make the air coming out of the supply registers any colder.

What does ac stand for?

What does ac stand for?

AC stands for ‘alternating current’ which means the current constantly changes direction. It’s better for transporting current over long distances, which is why we use it for mains electricity.

How long does a home inspection take?

How long does a home inspection take?

A home inspection can cost between $200 and $500 depending on the property location, the inspector, the size of the home and the scope of the inspection. Why does my air conditioner keep freezing?

Why does my air conditioner keep freezing?

Cold air from the home is needed for the coil to stay cold and keep the temperature above freezing. A freeze up can also be caused by low refrigerant and improper fan operation. Faulty thermostats and drainage problems are often the causes of a freeze up. If you have a window AC unit, you can use a hairdryer to unfreeze the coil. It’s also a good idea to check the drainpipe for any blockages, such as debris and twigs.

Why does my toilet smell like urine?

Why does my toilet smell like urine?

The main place urine smells could be coming from is under the toilet seat. If you have not cleaned under the seat before you may feel sick. Urine and dirt get caught underneath and can make the cleanest of toilets a bit stinky. In many cases, a constant urine smell is likely due to a leaking seal. This seals the point between the toilet and the drain but can be easily replaced by a Plumber. The floor can also smell of urine, especially if your boys are playing games.

What to do when your toilet overflows?

What to do when your toilet overflows?

Find your water shut off valve near the base of your toilet. If you know there’s a foreign object preventing the toilet from flushing, get some rubber gloves and try to remove it. If a clog is the culprit of the overflow, grab a toilet plunger and try plunging it free. Be sure to wash and disinfect all surfaces that were dampened by the toilet water. If water has spilled over the bowl and onto the floor, immediately remove it and clean it up.
